Losing Your Crown & Glory

The Suburban Woman of the Northwest Suburbs - Sept./Oct. 2009

Hair loss is one of the most devastating things a woman can go through. Hair is a woman’s identity.

Who do you go to?
What should you look for?
What questions should you ask?

On average, hair loss occurs 14-17 days after your first treatment (consult your doctor).  Chemotherapy goes through your papilla, from which your hair disconnects from the papilla and puts the hair follicle at rest.  Hair is made of 97 percent protein and 3 percent moisture.  When it disconnects, there may be some discomfort because protein is a hard substance.  The best way to eliminate the discomfort is to shorten the hair.  There is a reason for hair; not only does it frame your face but it helps regulate our body temperature.

Going to a qualified hairdresser that specializes in wigs (Cranial Prosthesis) is so important. How do you find one?

Linda DiFronzo and her staff are truly the most qualified.  Proper sanitary laws and by-laws? Hair for You Salon is.......Licensed by the State of Illinois to operate a Salon.  Licensed by the City of Arlington Heights to operate a business.  In addition every hairdresser is licensed by the State of Illinois with hours of continual education.

Two hairdressers are teachers.  Linda teaches wig classes to outside salon owners.  Three hairdressers have salon owner experience.  Linda DiFronzo has been a hairdresser for 30 years.  Linda helped start and manage JMC Hairwear in Florida for 13 years where she worked on wigs, hairpieces and extensions.

Linda managed an average of six wig dressers on staff daily and serviced 6 to 15 wigs daily for 13 years while continuing to solve any troubleshooting.  Linda can’t even begin to express the importance of a wig (cranial prosthesis) process.  There is a difference in wigs, sizing and cutting of a wig.  If a wig does not fit properly it does not look natural.  The most comforting thing for a chemo client is to look like themselves so they can concentrate on themselves and getting well.
